Dyeing to Quilt
Fiber reactive dye and applique.
One week of joint class with Karena Koeberly Wells: dye your cotton in low immersion with Procion MX dyes, then make an applique wall hanging with your own fabric. More DTQ

Invitation to quilters who want to dye their own fabric and to dyers who seek direction in using their fabric. Participants can expect to dye 3 yards of cotton, using environmentally friendly low immersion dyes and have a finished wall piece by the end of the week.

Karena Koeberle-Wells, Papillion, NE Fiber artist and graduate of the University of Colorado, Karena has sewn for as long as she can remember. She has enhanced her knowledge of fiber arts while traveling the world.

This unique class will cover basic silk painting techniques as well as providing the opportunity to learn the more meditative Japanese “Rozome” process. Basic course materials fee of $40 covers silk dyes, gutta, soy wax and 8 scarves.

Some students may elect to purchase Japanese brushes, shinshi stretchers, or kimono silk directly from the instructor or another source if they wish to learn this highly specialized and wonderful Japanese batik. Optional rozome materials (brushes, shinshi stretchers and silk) may cost up to $60. Please contact the instructor (bunny@db-bowen.com) upon registration if you wish to purchase these.
